History

The office was founded in 1895 by Amédée Coutot and taken over in 1924 by his son Maurice. The latter wrote numerous articles on the protection of artists’ rights and was a correspondent member of the Institut de France; he particularly distinguished himself in defending the interests of the heirs of painters Pierre Bonnard and Georges Rouault.

Jean-Claude Roehrig took over from him at the start of 1979. A graduate of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris (Paris Higher School of Political Sciences) and of the Institut de droit comparé in Paris (Paris Comparative Law Institute), and holder of the French lawyer’s qualification (CAPA), he is also a doctor in Law and Expert to the Paris Court of Appeal.

He has written many articles on parentage law and taught business law for many years. In 1994, he turned the sole proprietorship into a company with the help of his wife Marie-Françoise, then his two sons Guillaume and Tristan.

He is the author of “En quête d’héritiers - le généalogiste, la fortune et le destin” published by Tallandier.

Guillaume Roehrig , who holds a degree in law, has been appointed President and Managing Director of Coutot Roehrig in January 2011, succeeding his father Jean-Claude Roehrig.
